In 1990 I tried to buy a house and was so dismayed at the service I received from Estate Agents I decided to become one. At that time the country was in the grips of a major recession, trying to break into the industry was not easy. My opportunity came in 1992 and with hindsight I wish I had let the opportunity pass me by as three days later I experienced 'Black Wednesday'. Not to be put off by this I struggled through and was eventually promoted in 1997 to Senior Manager for a large corporate Estate Agency. I decided to leave corporate estate agency though as the focus was very much on selling financial services products rather than looking after needs the client i.e. the person who had instructed me to sell their property. On the 1st September 2000 I launched Greenaway And Partners based in Crawley West Sussex. I rebranded in 2003 to Greenaway Residential once I had bought the other partners out of the business. I value honesty and integrity as the fundamental basis of my Estate Agents. The days have long since passed where a person could say ‘my word is my bond’, but I believe in those words at all times.
